Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson was born in San Francisco in May 1969 to a wealthy California family with publishing-industry ties. He attended boarding schools in Switzerland and Rhode Island, then Trinity College in Hartford, graduating in 1991. He began his journalism career at The Weekly Standard and other publications in the 1990s. He hosted programs at CNN, PBS and MSNBC before joining Fox News in 2009, where he eventually hosted Tucker Carlson Tonight from 2016 to April 2023. Fox terminated his contract days after the network's $787 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems. He launched an independent streaming show on X, then built out a broader Tucker Carlson Network with daily content and interviews.
